Our ultimate goal is to plant a vegetable and flower garden for donation to the area soup kitchen. The students will, through their working together, learn community service, teamwork and dedication, if this project is to be successful. They will also learn planting, cultivating and composting skills to ensure success of the garden goals.
All classes will have access to the garden, grades Pre-K through grade 8. Initial plantings will occur in the classrooms, and transfer to the outdoor garden area. Over the summer months, middle school volunteers will be responsible for gathering the produce and delivering it to the soup kitchen with parent and teacher volunteers.
In the fall months, pumpkins will be collected from our garden, seeds will be collected for next years' plantings, and compost will be adjusted and spread as needed.
Environmental studies will be explored to avoid the use of invasive species of plants, which lighting is needed and experiments on maximum produce production with highest quality product.
