As their mission states, "The California School Garden Network's mission is to create and sustain California school gardens to enhance academic achievement, a healthy lifestyle, environmental stewardship and community and social development."

CSGN and Rhode Island's Childrens Garden Network are the only two networks in the country that provide a statewide central resource for information about creating sustainable gardens in schools and youth organizations.
